In the past, the hills offered protection against invaders. The<\/span><b> ancient town of Idanre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is fifteen kilometers South West of <\/span><b>Akure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the State Capital of Ondo. The Idanre hills was added to the <\/span><b>UNESCO World Heritage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2007. In the past, the hills provided protection for the ancient town of Idanre from invaders The ancient town can be found on top of the hill while the modern day settlement is at the base of the hills. \u00a0The Idanre town is one of the highest <\/span><b>Cocoa producers in Nigeria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In awe, they exclaimed: \u201c<\/span><b><i>Idanree<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!\u201d( a yoruba word for \u201cthis is wonder\u201d). The hills became their protection from invaders, hence, they lived for over 800 years on the hill until they migrated to the base of the hill in the year 1923.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>legend of the Idanre Hills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is related to <\/span><b>Agboogun<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,who was a great hunter with supernatural ability. It was believed that the great hunter asked three of his friends to accompany him on a journey which on their way, he paused to inscribe <\/span><b>hieroglyphics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on a hillside, and the cryptic inscription became known as the \u201c<\/span><b><i>Unreadable Signs<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d on the hills. The daughter was buried at the base of the Ilesun Hill. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Arun River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It is a small river found on the hill.
