{"id":10429,"date":"2018-07-25T17:13:23","date_gmt":"2018-07-25T16:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.propertypro.ng\/blog\/?p=10429"},"modified":"2018-07-25T17:13:23","modified_gmt":"2018-07-25T16:13:23","slug":"third-mainland-bridge-closure-postponed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/propertypro.ng\/blog\/third-mainland-bridge-closure-postponed\/","title":{"rendered":"Third Mainland Bridge Closure Postponed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposed three-day closure of the <\/span><b>Third Mainland Bridge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Investigative Maintenance Test earlier scheduled to last from July 27 to July 30 has been shifted to August 24 to August 26, 2018. <\/span><b>The Minister of Power, Works and Housing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said that the decision was taken after consultations with the <\/span><b>Lagos State Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other relevant stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashola said the date shift was done \u201cin order to give succour and relief to the people of Lagos State and other inter-state road users and support the efforts of the State Government\u201d. When completed, the project will enable free-flow of traffic on the axis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlso following the visit of the Vice President, <\/span><b>Professor Yemi Osinbajo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to Lagos in connection with the Apapa Port Gridlock, the Federal Government has said, as a short-term measure, a call-up system in the control of truck movement would be introduced,\u201d he said. The 11.8 km bridge is the longest in Nigeria and was inaugurated by the <\/span><b>Federal Government <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1990. The Federal Executive Council last May approved a total of N99.01 billion for repair and maintenance of roads and bridges nationwide with the <\/span><b>Third Mainland Bridge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> expected to gulp about N18.874 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On July 11, the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing announced that the bridge would be closed for three days to carry out tests toward repairing the facility.
