On July 1st, 2020 Nigerians began paying for electricity based on the hours of daily power received from their respective distros. A decision that came about after the Federal Government couldn’t provide subsidies for the power sector anymore. Customers were split into five (5) bands which had varied tariff per unit according to daily consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

For residents of Lagos, one of the major players in this space is Ikeja Electric (IE). where people have enjoyed between 20 hours power supply and some with only 4 hours daily supply.<\/span><\/p>\n

So if you are looking to move houses soon, or looking to get your first apartment, you need to read through what electricity band your choice area falls under and how you could plan for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Approved house for Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)<\/span><\/h1>\n

  1. Band A – Minimum of 20 Hours<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Band B – Minimum of 16 Hours<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Band C – Minimum of 12 Hours<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Band D – Minimum of 8 Hours<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Band E – Minimum of 4 Hours<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    While the above indicate how the spread of light works based on the electricity band categories; there is more based on the service truly received from each distro and they are categorised as Service Reflective Tariff.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
