One of the turn-offs about living\u00a0in Lagos<\/a> is the level of insecurity involving armed robbery, kidnappings and other menaces. Many people prefer to reside in their remote villages in peace than be part of the insecurity of Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n

To curb the situation and to make the state more habitable for its residents, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has said plans are afoot to link inner roads in the State to the Lagos Smart City Project, just as he expressed readiness to commence deployment of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras in October 2016 across the State.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists, the Governor said: \u201cOne of the cardinal areas in which we focus on is security in the State and we have realised that the man policing we have in Lagos is not sufficient if you look at the ratio of the policemen that we have to the citizens of the State. We have come up with an initiative which is an ongoing project and it is called the Smart City Project. In the area of security, we are going to be deploying CCTV Cameras to ensure that when you are sleeping, you have a guaranty that you are being watched\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The governor further stated that the present administration is interested in making sure that the city is safe and that technology is one of the areas of focus as CCTV Cameras will be deployed and linked to the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. He also mentioned that his government will have an eye over Lagos as it pays importance to the security of lives and property.<\/span><\/p>\n

About CCTV<\/b><\/h2>\n

CCTV (closed-circuit television) is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored, primarily for surveillance and security purposes. It relies on the strategic placement of cameras and private observation of the camera’s input on monitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

CCTV is commonly used for a variety of purposes, including:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Maintaining security<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Monitoring traffic<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Obtaining a visual record of human activity<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Just like in the European communities, the deployment of CCTV into Lagos would not only help in maintaining security but also in monitoring traffic and tackling other environmental issues of the state. In fact, we can hope that the police force would find it a very useful tool in performing their duties better.<\/span><\/p>\n
