With 36 states and the FCT, the population of the country is spread throughout all those states, with some being more populated than others. \u00a0The land mass of the states in Nigeria is not shared equally as with the population, some states are small with a large population while you will also find large states with a small population.<\/p>\n<p>Worthy of note is that most of the smallest states are in the southeastern part of Nigeria while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tolet.com.ng\/blog\/largest-states-in-nigeria-by-land-mass\/\">the large states<\/a> are in the northern part of the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the 2006 consensus, this is the population of the smallest states in Nigeria:<\/p>\n<p>CHECK:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tolet.com.ng\/property-for-rent\/abuja\">\u00a0PROPERTIES FOR RENT IN ABUJA<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Ebonyi State<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Ebonyi state<\/strong> is in south-east\u00a0Nigeria with a population of 2,173,501. \u00a0The capital Abakaliki is also the largest city in the state. Other major towns include Afikpo, Onueke, Edda, Onicha etc. Ebonyi state was one of the six states created in 1996 by the then federal military government, making it one of the youngest states in Nigeria. \u00a0The State of Ebonyi was created from parts of both\u00a0Enugu State\u00a0and\u00a0Abia State; which were initially constituents of the old\u00a0Anambra\u00a0and Imo states respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Ebonyi state is known as the \u201cSalt of the Nation\u201d because of its large salt deposits, It has 13 Local Government Areas and shares a border with Benue State to the North, Enugu State to the West, Imo and Abia States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tolet.com.ng\/blog\/history-of-bayelsa-state\/\">to the south<\/a> and Cross River State to the east. For administrative purposes, Ebonyi State is divided into three Senatorial Zones, each represented by a\u00a0Senator\u00a0at the National Assembly, and six Federal Constituencies, each represented by a\u00a0Member of the House of Representatives\u00a0also at the National Assembly. The three Senatorial Zones are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ebonyi North \u2013 comprising Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Ishielu, Ohaukwu and lzzi LGAs<\/li>\n<li>Ebonyi Central \u2013 comprising Ikwo, Ezza North, and Ezza South LGAs<\/li>\n<li>Ebonyi South \u2013 comprising Afikpo North, Afikpo South, lvo, Ohaozara and Onicha LGAs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The people of Ebonyi State are predominantly farmers and traders. The main crops produced in the State are rice, yam, palm produce, cocoa, maize, groundnut, plantain, banana, cassava, melon, sugar cane, beans, fruits, and vegetables.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abia State<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abia<\/strong>, one of the states in the southeastern\u00a0part of\u00a0Nigeria, occupying a space of 6,32033 square kilometers. Its capital is\u00a0Umuahia\u00a0and the major commercial city is\u00a0Aba. Abia state has 17 Local Government Areas, after being carved out of the former\u00a0Imo State\u00a0in 1991. The state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tolet.com.ng\/blog\/how-population-in-nigeria-affects-housing-and-real-estate\/\">now has a population<\/a> of 2,833,999. The name &#8220;Abia&#8221; is an abbreviation of four of the state&#8217;s densely populated regions\u00a0Aba,\u00a0Bende,\u00a0Isuikwuato, and\u00a0Afikpo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The traditional language of Abia people is\u00a0Igbo\u00a0as 95% of its population is Igbo.\u00a0English is widely spoken and serves as the official language in governance and business. Its size in square kilometers is 5,53035 and occupies the area between the lower\u00a0River Niger\u00a0and the upper and middle\u00a0Imo River. Owerri\u00a0is its capital and largest city. Its other major cities are\u00a0Orlu\u00a0and\u00a0Okigwe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The chief occupation of the local people of Imo state is farming but due to over-farming and high population density, the soil has greatly degraded. The cash crops include oil palm, raffia palm, rice, groundnut, melon, cotton, cocoa, rubber, maize, etc. Consumable crops such as yam, cassava, cocoyam, and maize are also produced in large quantities.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anambra State<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Anambra<\/strong>\u00a0is another\u00a0state\u00a0in southeastern\u00a0Nigeria with 4,182,032 and 4,84436 of population and size in square kilometers respectively. The capital and seat of government is\u00a0Awka.\u00a0Onitsha\u00a0is by far the largest urban area. The state&#8217;s theme is &#8220;Light of the nation.\u201d Old Anambra State was created in 1976 from part of\u00a0East Central State, and its capital was\u00a0Enugu. The smallest in the area of Nigeria&#8217;s 36 states. Lagos State is arguably the most economically important state of the country.
