The state capital is\u00a0Minna, and other major cities are\u00a0Bida\u00a0Kontagora and\u00a0Suleja. It was formed in 1976 during the regime of General Murtala Mohammed. The Nupe, Gbagyi, Kamuku, Kambari, Dukawa, and Koro are the majority of numerous indigenous tribes of Niger State. The state is named after the\u00a0River Niger. Two of Nigeria’s major\u00a0hydroelectric\u00a0power stations, the\u00a0Kainji Dam, and the\u00a0Shiroro Dam are located in Niger State, The famous\u00a0Gurara Falls\u00a0is in Niger State, and Gurara Local Government.\u00a0Niger state is also home to Kainji National Park, the largest National Park of Nigeria, which contains\u00a0Kainji Lake, the\u00a0Borgu Game Reserve, and the\u00a0Zugurma Game Reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n
